Sonic The Hedgehog 2

The second Sonic game made for the Master System was, in my opinion, greatly improved over the first. I though the level design was a bit better, some of the mechanics had been tightened I think, and most of all I don’t think I even noticed any of the slowdown that I found was prevalent in the first. In fact, it seemed to me that some of the level design focus was shifted back into see Sonic go real fast. I also enjoyed the later levels that heavily involved the chute puzzles. I used save states so it seemed I knew what I was doing in most instances, but for just about every one of those chute puzzles I explored every option you could take and some of them took you to wholly different places to finish the level, pretty cool!

I did also find a couple strange things as well. For one, I didn’t see any Chaos Emeralds, which I could have just somehow completely missed, and secondly, the ending and the last boss came out of nowhere and was pretty anti-climactic. This also may be due to the fact that I didn’t collect any Chaos Emeralds if there were any, maybe the ending is different if I had done things differently?

Who knows, I don’t. I could surely look it up right now… but I’m not going to.

Anyway, I thought this was a pretty darn good Sonic game for the Master System.
